In the Spotlight + Mini Challenge... with Sheri Levitt

Hi! Sheri here and it is my turn to take the spotlight!

Here is a little bit about me. I've been paper crafting for over 20 years. I started in high school. A friend got me hooked on rubber stamping and I never looked back since. I did dabble in scrapbooking but layouts were not my thing. A few years ago I happen to stumble on some youtube videos on crafting, mixed media, and art journaling. I've meet some great people in the online world of crafting. I was on the Viva Las VegaStamps! Design Team from April 2012 - June 2013. It was a dream come true being on that team. I do a little bit of everything, ATCs, postcards, collage, art journaling, altered projects. I'm loving the mixed media and art journaling. To see more of my creations please visit my blog "Shy Crafty Girl".

Now for the Mini Challenge. Its no secret to some that pink is my favorite color! LOL! For this challenge I want everyone to THINK PINK! Also October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. So you can do your project on the color pink or Breast Cancer Awareness, or both!

Here is my page.

I used a page that had some purple craft paint on it from a previous page. I used some pink craft paint. And some rub-ons from my stash. Also some Bubble gum pink and white linen Dylusions sprays and a plastic canvas circle and a large fly swatter. Stamped some flowers from Close to my Heart in black Memento ink pad. I glued down one of my Julie Nutting dolls (LOVE THESE STAMPS!) that I had made before when I first got them. outlined her in black bic pen. Then in my stash of alpha stickers I spelled out think pink.

So all you pink lovers come on out and play along in this week long challenge!

Please join us next Sunday for a brand new Challenge - No. 28.
Have a great week!

Margaret stepped out of her comfort zone and tried her hand at altering a book. She used a page from a very misused Pocahontas book found while doing a major clean out of her kid's room.

"I am a painter at heart... but with a busy work schedule I find that altered books {and now also art journaling} give me a small format that I can paint in and let myself create freely. This book is a book that is just for me and not one that I pass around for round robin altered book collaboration in my local group. The quote of this book actually was in the book on a section that was cut out for pull-out drawers. Sometimes the book provides me with the inspiration to FLY!"

We hope our designers have you INSPIRED to break out some supplies, or curl up with a journal and create!!! We can't wait to see your creations and we hope that you will join in and share them with us! CLICK HERE TO LINK UP your creations. Stop back next Sunday to see more creations from our Design Team!

Sherie used a page in this journal by Prima, and grunged it up. Tim Holtz meets Prima! :)

"As I use book pages in just about everything I do, I tried to think of something completely different to make for this challenge. So I have made a circle hanging ornament using book pages.  Not the easiest thing to photograph! -  Please see more pictures and details on my blog."

"In addition to my own huge collection of books I also inherited those of my parents. I'm currently in the process of trying to slim down this huge book mountain but not finding it easy! As a distraction, I decided to have a go at altering one of them and will use this as an album in which I can keep my late mother's poems."

For Julia's project, she altered a book based on a demo piece created by Andy Skinner at The Craft Barn... and enjoyed practicing her dry brushing technique. CLICK HERE to jump over to her blog "Julia's Stuff" and read all about how she created this.

"Our life's journeys all take such twists and turns. I began this journal in 2005 at a very difficult and painful time in my life. It has taken till now to feel totally comfortable to revisit it and to begin to use again. Of course, it had nothing on the cover so a makeover was in order but this is a work in progress. I'm not sure it is finished... we shall see as I start to play in it again."

Diana used a dictionary page to make the doll...
and it's also a bookmark! So double bookly duty!

In the Spotlight + Mini Challenge... with Julie Short

"Inspiration exists but it has to find you working."
~ Henri Matisse

Hello and welcome to our first
"In the Spotlight" + Mini Challenge.

I'm Julie and my passion is making.

You know, years ago a sniffy, art teacher told me loudly

"Do not, choose to do... ART!"

I'm so glad that happened because I have been
playing now for a long time, without RULES!

I would love you to take a peak into my "Time To Create" world. Then you might know a little about me and what I love doing.  Joining me on my journey would be a delight. That's what makes Blogland such a great place.

If you were to visit my home you would find LOTS of books.

There are a stacks of journals and notebooks too. Some for sharing, some hold collections of thoughts and ideas. Some are just for me.

Do you journal?

I always have a few different styles and types of journals on the go! Most exciting for me are my travel journals. They are there with me in the suitcase as I indulge my passion for travel. Once again I'm saving, saving and planning! Europe 2014!

Here's a page from my Classes Journal. How quickly I forget the YES! discoveries that come about as I explore. Now I'm learning to write them down.

Here's my challenge for you!

Share with us, a page from a journal, any style, any way and link it up below to Anything But A Card Challenges. Our Mini Challenges will run for a week.

It will be my pleasure to come visit and see your entry
and choose someone to... Share the spotlight!

Our next regular challenge is "Hit the Books" starting Sept 8th.
I'll be back then to share my seriously hefty tome!

New Month... New Season for New Beginnings... and New Challenges here at Anything But a Card Challenges!

Good Morning! Please bear with us as we have been taking care of some old business today {which is all caught up} - now on to some NEW Business! This announcement is just to give a little intro to something brand NEW that is starting today here at Anything But a Card Challenges.

Over the summer our Amazing team of creatives put our heads together to inspire and grow our budding Challenge Blog here. It's been a year since we began - and the time has flown by. We have been so inspired by all of you - our loyal fellow creatives - who create and share along with us.

We decided that Anything But a Card Challenges was more and bigger than all of us and it was unanimous that main requirement should be that the creative process is fun - not only for you, but for us as well! If you don't enjoy your art, why are you doing it? Sometimes we tend to get so caught up in producing that we forget to enjoy the process! Also, its so important to carve out just a little piece of time that is dedicated to letting your muse play.

Also - we wanted to share a little more about our Designers, our creative process to get to know us better. Starting with the Challenge No. 27; all of Anything But a Card Challenges will be extended to three weeks {instead of two} so that you have an additional week to play along with a challenge. So we will have one challenge a month starting this month.

What happens to the 4th week???

This is a new feature that will follow shorty and our Fabulous Julie Short has volunteered to start the month of with a BURST of Creative Inspiration and bring us our first Artist Spotlight and Mini Challenge. Julie is excited to launch our new adventure here at ABAC!

Stay Tuned for Julie's "Artist Spotlight" and Mini Challenge post coming up shortly. Thanks to all of you for supporting us and growing with us here at Anything But a Card Challenges!

Sending you all many {{{ big crafty hugs }}} :) Sb
